Where the work is
A house, circuit by circuit
Many of the houses round here went up between the late 1950s and the 1980s. This is one of them, a two-storey semi with the consumer unit under the stairs. Follow the cables to the rooms they feed.
How a job runs
Five steps, from the first photo to the certificate
The same order every time, whether it is one extra socket or a rewire. Keep the certificates from steps four and five: a buyer’s solicitor will ask for them when you sell.

Who we are
Set up in Sandhurst in 2023
Switch Smart Electrical Ltd was set up in Sandhurst in 2023 by Scott Gibson. Ollie Smith joined him as a director in 2024. Between them they do the electrical work for homes and landlords in Sandhurst, Camberley, Bracknell and Ascot, and small commercial work for shops and offices.
The way we work is simple to describe. You get the price in writing before anything starts. The work is done tidily and to the regulations. Every job is tested and certified, and anything notifiable is notified, so the paperwork is right when you come to sell.

Which areas do you cover?
Sandhurst, Camberley, Bracknell and Ascot, and the places around them: Crowthorne, Owlsmoor, Yateley, Blackwater, Frimley, Finchampstead, Wokingham, Binfield, Warfield, Bagshot, Windlesham, Lightwater and Farnborough. If you are not sure, put your postcode into the checker on the areas page.
Do you give written quotes?
Yes. For anything more than a small job we come and look first, then put the price and what it covers in writing. A programme for the work comes with the quote, so you know what will happen and in what order.
What certificate will I get?
It depends on the work. A new circuit, a rewire or a new consumer unit gets an Electrical Installation Certificate. A small addition to an existing circuit, such as an extra socket, gets a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. An inspection of an existing installation produces an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
Does the work have to be notified to building control?
Some of it does. Under Part P of the Building Regulations, notifiable work in a home, such as a new circuit, a consumer unit replacement or work in a bathroom’s special location, must be notified to building control. A registered installer self-certifies the work and makes the notification for you, and you receive a Building Regulations compliance certificate.
How often should the wiring be inspected?
For a home you live in, IET guidance recommends a periodic inspection at least every ten years, and when the property changes hands. Private landlords in England must have the installation inspected and tested at least every five years, give tenants a copy of the report, and have any required remedial work done within 28 days, or sooner if the report says so.
